View Full Version : Feature Request: Display layer name, not Object filename option

Say you've made a model and:

layer 1 is named GROUND PLANE
layer 2 is named VEHICLE
and the filename is MUD+SNOW_EFFECT_v001.LWO

For me, the most important part of the name may get cut off by the narrowness of the Scene Editor column. IOW, "MUD+SNOW_EFFECT_v001:Ground Plane" may be too long for the column.

I'd like AN OPTION to display layer names without their overarching filenames. (OPTION, capiche?)

Since the SE Panel title bar isn't being utilized, the overarching name, the filename, could be displayed up there in the title bar. (In general, the title bars could be made more useful.) So, for the ACTIVE MESH, the layer name would be in the Item Name column, but the filename would be displayed in the SE title bar. If meshes from multiple files were highlighted, it'd say "(multiple)".

When this option is engaged, a small indicator in the ITEM NAME bar would light up/appear/whatever.

It's not so much the SE, as other places....
