View Full Version : 32 bit images for foreground/ direct use with transparency | PSD issues??

Hi: I was going to ask about using 32bit images directly as foregrounds since they have transparency already defined, but I got sidetracked into PSD files.

Take a look:
Bog standard PSD file, cloned and set to ALPHA ONLY in the ImageEditor, looks right, used as FG Alpha in compositing panel, doesn't work.

Looks like it should work.

For a lark I turned on FOREGROUND FADER ALPHA, whose meaning to me is lost in the mysts of time, boom, it works.

Now, is this because, 1) as a PSD, the file didn't have a literal "alpha" channel, just magical built-in transparency?
and 2) does a 32bit file with a genuine alpha channel not require the FOREGROUND ALPHA FADER switch to be on?

test test test... Well, that's weird: I added an explicit alpha channel to the PSD file used above, and now LW doesn't recognize it as a 32bit file at all--says it's 24 bits.

:stumped: :bangwall:

SOmetimes importing complex psd files is glitchy.

Just for grins, here's the test file...
