View Full Version : Align to Path using Nodal Motion?

I have a Null and applying some random motion to its position using a Turbulence node on Motion Options/Nodal Motion.

I also want to add an object to it that uses Inertia to give it a bit of a tail. In order for this to work correctly the Null with the random motion needs to rotate to the direction it's moving.

I realise that the null isn't on a pre-defined path which is why Align to Path on the H and P isn't working.

Is there another way to get it to rotate where it's going? Something that converts to the Bump from the Turbulence node into Rotation?

You may try to use 2 Motion Info nodes,
with current time and slightly offset time as input,
you get 2 positions as output,

then input them in the 'Align To' node
current as 'From', ahead/offset as 'to'
you get an 'Align to path' hpb vector.

Edit: removed the direction vector calculation,
it is useless with 'Align To' node

Edit 2: of course this works only if your Null has been
evaluated in Layout before the object following the path...

'Eck, sounds involved, I was hoping for a tick-box! Thanks for you time but think I'll try another approach.
