View Full Version : Spline>>Nulls.lws : yes, I googled first / Spline Control utility

I googled, didn't see it, so I'm asking:

Is there a script that will create an LWS (Scene) file based on a LWM spline?

IOW: give the script a spline, and it creates the nulls used by Spline Control in a new LWS scene file.

(This has got to have been asked before, right?)

I thought celshader made a python script that already does this.

Is it called "SplinesToNulls.py"? --- that's just a wild guess, truly.

I checked LW3dG's plugin page, and Celshader only has 2 plugins listed, so apparently not.

"Curve to Spline" under the Setup tab (Layout) in 11.6 maybe?

YES, that's Jens' script but included in 11.6.x so you can convert LWM spline into Spline guide ready for Layout. Just be warned that in case of tight corners (like 90 angle pipes) you might have some problems/overlaps at corners due system how Layout read splines so in case you need tight corners you'll need to create modeler spline with equal spacing between points.

LWG3D is aware of this problem and they will surely solve/adapt it in future but for now that's the way how it goes :).
There is tutorial how to use it.

Ahhh, excellent, and it didn't show up in the Assets page because it's native.

Thanks, fellas! I'll have a look! ::hattip::

I like that this plugin uses JOINTS rather than nulls, as this make for a pleasing on-screen display.

For some reason, whatever preset I started with didn't include this plugin: it was in the junk drawer, errr "Additional" menu.
