View Full Version : Rail Extrude with curves, straight lines, and sharp corners?

I need to build a rather complex wire structure.

For the curvy parts I like the Spline Draw tool, but I also need some straight lines that transition smoothly into the curves, without a little hump pushing out the opposite direction of my curve.

Bezier works better for that, and corners, but it is much more of a pain to use in the curves. Plus, when you go do the Rail Extrude, and you Shift-Z the sections of the Bezier into one rail, it jacks the corners.

Any good tips or tutorials on work flow for complex rail extrudes?

px bezier has a lot of control to create sharper corners and different divisions on the segments...using both smooth corner handles or sharp.

you can use curves, lines, tube, extrude or extend, you can also save out the paths and reload back again.

For a wire structure I would not use extrude, I would use the "negative line thickness" technique.

Thanks guys.

That px bexier looks pretty handy!

I forgot about the -negative line approach, that would probably work pretty good, except at some points we have to boolean and do a cross section.
