Recently I work with backdrop images a lot. Blueprints, photographs, etc...

A more flexible way of using backdrop images would be cool. Multiple images, better control over position, size, scale and (!) rotation, and so forth.

Right now I am using UV mapped planes. Which actually works extremely well. I can rotate, transform, even skew and distort the images if I need to do that. The only downside to this method is that I always have to work in Texture Wire mode.
So actually, while I am writing this... how about being able to set the Rendering Styles (from Wireframe to Textured Wire) per Layer? So if I select two Layers, one can have my UV mapped backdrop plane showing up as "Texture", and the contents of the other layer are displayed in "Color Wireframe".

Just some food for thoughts, or maybe not. ;)

we also need a transparency control for backdrop images.
