Hello

What speed ram is minimal to have good results with LW? 1600 or 1866? Does the cas number matter?

The fastest your computer will take, but do not stress over it. If you are overclocking, running the ram a bit slower may allow you to get a faster CPU which will be more worthwhile for rendering.

If it costs more, I personally would spend the money on a faster CPU first or with more cores!

CPU is the most important by a long shot.

RAM is second, but as long as you have enough for the size scenes your are going to render, & Layout's viewports which use a stack of RAM (there are a few simple tricks to free up ram in this situation).

RAM timing is far less important than quantity. You can have one stick of the fastest RAM on the planet and when you run out of it, everything grinds to a halt. Obviously, get the fastest you can within budget but trade off timings for amount.

You can add more later but be aware, however, that in current motherboard architecture, especially with the timings today, RAM Kits are the way to go. The sticks are all tested and certified to work together. Getting 16 GB now and adding 16 GB later and then adding 32 GB after that may cause issues, because the chips are not cut form the same cloth, as it were.
