I recently got a chance finally to see the new \$100 note here in the States. I thought it would be a fun test to try an emulate the 3D security ribbon with nodes.

We could also do 5 or so images and emulate a lenticular print.

By using Math > Scalar > Multiply you are destroying vector that you just made with Make Vector..
You can get rid of Make Vector, or use Math > Vector > Multiply (or Math > Vector > Scale, it's like multiply the all XYZ by the same value).

OK cool, that's what I originally wanted, but having not spent a great deal of time in nodes I'm still getting a handle on it.

However I also like the distortion that happens with my happy accident. For this application, I think it actually helps the effect.

Since you're making a vector using just the incidence input into X, then your YZ are 0... sending a vector into a scalar input (as u have with the multiply) gets only the X (so YZ still 0)... as such, using a vec mult there would make no difference... as in fact, would taking out the make vec, its not needed inbetween the incidence and multiply. U'll also find that if u wanna play with the amount of angle, that instead of having 2 gradients, its easier to just have 1, and simply invert its output to connect into the second opacity.

Conversion from Scalar to Vector copies it to the all components XYZ.

Math > Scalar > Multiply and Math > Vector > Multiply all have 1.0 and 1,1,1 as 2nd input.

Thanks to both of you for weighing in with your expertise. I knew my setup wasn't optimized by any means, but it never will get optimized if I don't start somewhere.
