Is there a way to see bump map or normal map in preview mode?

Not in LW.
LW has procedural, dynamic way of generation of bumps and normals.
They are calculated for spots, when ray hits specific location.
They are not existing otherwise.

To show bump/normal in any app, they must be baked first. And such map is uploaded to gfx card memory.

there was a hack to preview it through the bump map channel,
can't remember how though. i use VPR these days.

Wow! And that works? Amazing.

I don't understand very well, does he say "hit ctrl+shift+F1"? What is that for?

he is me.... http://erikalstad.com/backup/misc.php_files/wink.gif

yes, Ctrl+Shift+F1 opens LightWave experimental features, never made official by NT.

i think the LightWave user Cageman was the one that revealed the trick...

It does not work for me... i am using GLSL Shaders, is this the problem?

sorry, not quite sure... :\

if you are on a Mac, maybe that might be the cause...

Thanks...didnīt know about that, you get a sort of rough preview of it I would say, and you donīt even have to setup a normal map node for it, just using bump..strange, the advantage of it might
be to spin around and check how the normal map looks around a model in a faster way than vpr actually can.
Im all for more advanced opengl stuff, bring on full volumetrics..hypervoxels and a volumetric light opengl preview:)...but maybe they could start with something as crucial as shadows from lights in openGL, sketchup style for instance.

doesnīt work with procedural textures to acheive bump though, have to resort to VPR, donīt work with glsl shaders either...only color and not all of the procedurals.

Because you should not know about that.
Erikals revealed without authorization from NT undocumented experimental feature..

These experimental features are quite known and have been there for many versions now. I don't know if said features are evolving as LightWave does or how reliable are. In any case, I don't know why would he need any authorization to remind something that's been there for ages.

isn't 'Y' the green channel usually flipped for Lightwave normals and if so how can prevuing it in Layouts texture editor without resource to the nodal editor account for that ?
