View Full Version : Node editor - Feature request

The node editor is a VERY powerful tool (can't wait to see it used for other purposes than surface or displacement, like object positioning...) and you can produce very complex logic with it. It just needs a way to better document the logic diagrams so that other people can understand them easier. Here are some suggestions:

* Export the whole diagram as a PNG file. Look at this for example, (one of my simpler diagrams): you can't read what the connections are. The only alternative is for me to zoom in and export in parts, and stitch together in an image editor.

* Be able to add color shapes (just rectangles would be fine) in the background, with a label, to highlight certain areas of the diagram. Here's an example I whipped up for the above diagram:

* Optionally show the comment ON the nodes instead of having the comment show up at the bottom of the screen for the selected node. When I export an image I need those comments!

Yes the lack of a way to document lightwaves nodes diminishes their value greatly. Its like having a programming language without the ability to write comments. Anything more than a simple node setup is just a pile of spaghetti when you first look at it. It can be as much work to decipher what is going on as to set it up in the first place. I posted on this also a while ago also: http://forums.newtek.com/showthread.php?130366-How-to-comment-a-node-setup

Good idea! I added a node editor feature request as well.
