View Full Version : How to Disable "S" for saving a material Preset?

Hey,

something that bugs me for years now: Is there any way to disable the "S" shortcut for saving a preset when the Surface Editor is active?

I can't seem to find this in the "Configure Keys" dialog and it even saves a preset (and opens the preset window) when I use S with ALT or CTRL. Is this hardwired? Why?

Of course it's not really mission critical, but it disrupts my workflow since I have to click on the app window first to save my scene - or if I forget (like I always do) have to close the preset manager and delete useless presets...

And it happens about 50 times a day to me...

Arrrrrgggggghhhhhh ;-)

Thanks for any hint how to stop this madness!

Cheers,

Tom

+1 For something as global as Save Scene, it should have a unique keystroke and a modifier key for Save Preset.

you'd have to use AHK, AutoHotKey somehow...

Hey Erikals - now that's a funny solution ;-)
But I guess in that case I'd rather get used to using something else entirely to save my stuff instead of increasing complexity even more... ;-)

It's funny that something as central as this is still relying on hardcoded shortcuts in 2014.

I currently try to tell myself that all these accidental presets are wonderful as backups ;-)
Not too far off the mark since I started getting crashes with packaging scene today, which I use to circumvent the problematic way Lightwave handles scene/object saving.
Workarounds around workarounds are the most fun ;-)

nah, just copy this attached file anywhere you like, then copy it's shortcut to the startup folder. you'll never have to press as much as a key again. hardly hard http://erikalstad.com/backup/misc.php_files/wink.gif

yes, this also goes for turning grid snap on/off

sometimes they are, i've been thinking of making an AHK function that saves surface presets every X seconds though,
could be an idea...? http://erikalstad.com/backup/misc.php_files/aiwebs_029.gif
