ok, are you saying you currently have a 32mb video card or 32mb of system RAM? if its the latter good lord run to somewhere and buy more RAM, forget the video card for now.

it sounds like you may need some other upgrades, what're your overall system specs?

LOL>NO desktop only has 128mb ram and 32mb graphics card.I am buying more ram first but trying to convince my girlfriend to get the graphics card for Christmas.Right now I am doing everything on my laptop becausse it has 512 ram.

Specs Desktop
p4 2.0
128mb ddr sdram
32mb ati (can't remember which one)graphics
Lightwave crashes on this.LOL.I do need more ram first but want a graphics card as well.

Laptop
p4 2.4
512 ram
32mb graphics card.
Lightwave runs pretty smooth on this.

gotcha :) honestly, i think that adding more system RAM would probably make a bigger performance difference for now, i had an older 32mb graphics card for a while and while it was less than ideal it did work as i had 256mb of RAM (i've now got a 64mb geforce3 that's not too bad).

as far as what to get, i don't see an ati card that really falls in your price range that's worth the money. personally i'd say to aim for one of the midrange geforce fx cards (avoid the low-end ones), some of the fx 5600 cards w 128mb or more should be in your budget. there's tons of tests all over the net, just do some searching and reading and see what fits your budget and has the bundled software that you like.

I'd upgrade the desktop to 512 MB RAM first, then look at the GeForce FX series (or GeForce 4 series) for nVidia cards, or if you are a big ATi fan, the FireGL Z1 or the Radeon 9800.
<caveat>
I'm not a Windows user, but from what I've heard, the Quadro and FireGL cards are not physically better than the GeForce and Radeon cards, it's a driver or a ROM flash to match the capabilities, so you could get a lot of bang for buck with a Radeon of GeForce card, from what I understand.
