View Full Version : Speed Modeling Tute and Tips

I'm sorta old and sorta new to Modeler. I used it back when it was ver 6-- and funny thing is it seems to come back pretty fast. Guess it hasn't changed as much as I thought it might-- which is good for me.

Many of you have seen Vitaly Bulgarov's Black Phoenix Project (http://www.bulgarov.com/blackphoenix_d1.html) where he created, modeled and rendered 10 *amazing* mechs in 10 days. Very inspiring!

He also has a video showing how he 'speed models' using XSI (http://youtu.be/4ct9voyU3h0). I found it interesting as XSI seems much like Modeler so I decided to see if I couldn't copy his technique, but in Modeler instead of XSI. I purchased LWCAD (wow is that cool) and slugged my way through the first part of his video.

I tried to copy his techniques as best as I could from within Modeler. As I said, just getting started back, and if anyone has any advice or Tips it would be appreciated greatly.

Very inspiring! Like the Meta Form Plus technique esp. Good to see some hard bodied modeling, I'd get too hung up on it being sub-D!

Goes to show what I'm always preaching, LWCAD is just DA BOMB for modelling, regardless of if you do arch-viz or not.
Imagine trying to do half of that without it, urghh, sure, it could be done, but, urggh. ;)

The first part is a great advert for just how useful that plugin set is to us all. :D

The only problem with duplicating the SI video is that they are able to mainly work pretty much all in the perspective viewport since they have modeling widgets. But most everything else should be able to be duplicated with Modeler and LWCAD.

Great video chipp and a great way to show all the other features of LWCAD. Ive had it since the beginning and its a boon for modeler and not just for archviz work.

Would be interested to see more using modeler and LWCAD.

I think we'll see more of this sort of "low Poly / high interactive design" modeling as folks try and create 3D STL print files in LW.
