View Full Version : Is there a plugin which can do this (as seen in XSI)

Note how easy it is to 'block out' a pipe, then apply the fillets to it later. Are there any plugins which can do this? Rounder cannot. Thanks!

Seems that there is something that does this (subdivide curved sections) but I just use LWCAD for my pipes and refine them either as I go or edit prior to committing.

Rope plugin is very good for pipes. Uses 2 point poly chains and auto uv maps the geometry. You can edit in realtime. Lots of settings for segments etc. Combine with the knife tool if necessary for detail.

Can you tell me if the Mass Round plugin in LWCAD can do this as shown? Also, can you select edges and round just them using Mass Round? The website gives very little information. Thanks!

Thanks, though I'm looking for a really good rounding tool like xsi has.

I don't think Mass Round will give you what you need, though I'd be glad for someone to correct me on that.

If the shape of the rounding isn't good enough there's not much I can suggest, but if it's more that Rounder has been exploding the polygons, as a work around you can select every other edge loop and round them that way, it's an annoying issue with Rounder that the edge geometry you want to round needs to be separated by an 'inert' edge.

Mass Round isn't what I'd use for this. I'd use the Pipe tool. It allows you to draw out the pipes, with or without offset from a surface, and specify the corner segments and angles as you go.

Basically looks like Bandsaw with an average smoothing option. I would suggest this as a feature to the LW3DG.

SwiftEdgeLoop v2.0 from TrueArt might be able to >

LWCAD allows you to change the Curve Freeze Error (number of loops around the pipe bend) when using 'Pipe' in 'Round' mode. But once you create the pipe, you can't go back and change the number of fillets.

You could always block out the pipe with simple box geometry and then use Bezier Bridge plugin (https://www.lightwave3d.com/assets/plugins/entry/bezier-bridge/) to connect the pipe pieces. Bezier Bridge allows you to set the number of Segment Subdivisions between two selected pieces of geometry.

edit, i noticed this doesn't always work that well for low poly pipes (pipes with few sides)
you might just want to subdivide the whole pipe instead, or use another trick, such as the Bezier Bridge plugin > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSYdvwqxP5U

True, you just be careful while you're creating it. I've committed some pipes and then just went in and edited the points where necessary. Not a big deal, by any means. I'll check out the Bezier Bridge, as it looks interesting. So many plugins, so little time....

And so many different ways to achieve the same results.

Just to throw something else into the mix, you could always use the Pipe tool with either a square, or 8 sided poly, block out your pipe structure and if there are any curved areas that need attention, use the Box tool (set to Subtract) and use that to draw over and remove the pipe curves. Then use Bezier Bridge to redo curves with prefered segments.

What's the pipe tool?

Sorry DJ, should have stated it's an LWCAD tool.
