How might I go about setting up a nodal displacement that works like the native Twist Deformer, but with more ways to control the deformation (textures, gradients, etc...) Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Have a look in DPkit... there's a twist node that's ready to go (though more basic than the twist displacement modifier). The other one would be his rotate node, which if you just hook up the delta and enter a rotation value, rotates your mesh, much like you'd get using the regular handles... But ofc, you can use gradients or other textures/tools to begin varying the amount of rotation applied at different points in the mesh. Reference null positions if you want something interactive, etc, etc.

Thanks, RH! The twist node was not acting the way I wanted, but I think the rotate node looks promising. I'll give it a go. Cheers!
