View Full Version : what do we want for 8.5

11-16-2003, 09:16 AM
ok i know this been done before but thought itmight eb interested now we have a fair idea whats in 8

so character animation/ dynamics/ general interface improvements wont be on the list

:edit that should be improved uv mapping =)

you never know these may all be implemted in LW 8 already:D

I want them all! :)

One feature I desperately need that isn't listed are physically accurate (non-GI) soft shadowing lights - that are faaaaaast!

Basically area lights that behave properly but tons faster than we have now.

I want ver 8.

Where's the option for : "people to stop posting silly polls"?

11-16-2003, 03:57 PM
I dunno, I prefer this to all the moaning threads. At least we can get a numerical idea of what most people would like to see sorted out and NT can see what kind of demands there are for certain things and concentrate on those more..

How about more options on the poll :)

well!..rendering seems to be to most popular so far...
seems that most people can model and texture what theyneed already but would like to SEE their creations a little faster and be able to set them up better.

I'm all about 3D paint.

But then it's a little early to be taking a poll for 8.5 when we don't even know what's in 8 yet.

Matt you should take a look at Shadow designer from 3D Evasion....

These shadows have everything you want...

11-17-2003, 01:15 AM
do not trust shadow designer! it sucks!

it fails if u do not use a planar surface for casted shadows. Try to cast your shadows on a deformed objects such as some drapery on a table, and see how SD sucks...

And if I remember correctly, it fails on screamer network rendering, too...

Im with pauland - this is getting lame.

actually, i think the problem with the poll is that it's ludicrously over-optimistic.

ya think they're gonna give you 3d paint in a free point upgrade?

they can't put edges in unless they break everything... total tear down basically. no freakin way....

faster render is reasonable i suppose.... along with hypervoxels... faster yes... waddya mean by better? not defined.

better uv modeling (specifically no unweld/weld and more tools like auto separating symmetric overlap, relax, etc) is probably the easiest to do.

but alas alas....

I want all these features and more!
more interactive tools for example.
however, I am just drooling waiting for [8]
maybe also we'll have some good surprises. :D

P.s. Proton said that there will be closer releases, so 8.2, 8.3..

ok Ive just been doing some tight fitting clothing on a character, and some decent snapping tool,s are desperatly needed like the stuff Modo can do LW is crap onthis front

11-17-2003, 04:09 AM
1. faster GI
2. bakable everything ( particlemotion for each particle )
3. animatable everything ( also things like framerate for bullettime effects)
4. better uv tools like relax uv´s n´stuff
5. lscript documentation even a noob like me can understand.

MOdeler really really needs better polygon dividing tools like Max's Cut for example...

11-17-2003, 01:42 PM
I'm not sure what Max's cut tool does but it's pretty easy now to cut polys in lightwave using bandsaw, knife, split, or dstorms add edges which will probably be added into LW8 or is free to use now.

11-17-2003, 01:55 PM
please do not have max cut tool!!
it's rubbush!
god, try it!...the stupid thing adds verts where it wants and not where you clicked...you hav to clean up every cut with snapping verts and merging them...YUK!

if it actually worked as it shold it would be a nice addition but for G's sake don't just copy it!
