View Full Version : Why does LW 10 to Max via FBX addsunwanted smoothing?

As the title says. I am exporting a LWO to 3DS Max(2013) via FBX export.

When the model is imported, all surfaces have smoothing (where I didn't apply any.)

I'd like to know...

A, Is this LW? Max? The FBX exporter? or me?

B, how can I fix it?

Once in Max I tried to clear all smoothing (groups) but that did nothing.

Probably vertex normals are calculated the easiest way- by averaging polygon's normal vectors.

Solution- bake normal map in LW and use it in target app, instead of relying on vertex normals.

B. Select all polys or element subobject then click clear smoothing groups.
You have to start smoothing areas again from scratch though.
