THE NEW KINECT in -November

'In November this year The X–BOX ONE will be released
to look at to the X Box One appears more modest & more
grown-up than its predecessor,the 360 originally launched
in 2005.
But the biggest evolution of the X Box( although the Play-
Station will have the similar eye camera & move motion
controller.)….. The Kinect has three times the resolution
of the previous system and a infrared senor so it works in
the dark. It’s so sensitive that it can read a player’s facial
expression,a feature that won’t be used in launch games
but in future could, for example, allow the device to detect
whether you’re looking anxious while your playing it at
poker – and bluff accordingly. Microsoft claims it can even
monitor skin tones to tell whether you’re flushed and thus
estimate your heart rate.
One title we played, Kinect Sports Rivals, used the camera
to scan the player’s face, give it a suitably heroic makeover
and plant it on top of an in game avatar - ……
Project Spark,is a title in which you create and share games,
Allow you to program a character’s movements by acting
them out in front of the of the Kinect.
Kinect is to be bundled with the X Box One rather than being
an optional accessory'

Excerpt from a Review in Sunday Times 1st Aug 20123
page 18/9 Driving/Techno section Supplement.

[Unbundled Kinect sensor purchase option will probably be a
dev. kit Windows option as before, but no info on unbundled
vanilla versions as yet.]

For what they say it will be no Kinect sold only, and will not compatible with PC.

Looks like there is an updated "Windows" version in the works... just not showing up as quickly as the Xbox One will/

"This Kinect for Windows platform will be delivered “next year” according to Microsoft, with a new Kinect for Windows sensor and software development kit (SDK) to go along with it. It’s not yet known if the SDK will be delivered before the actual unit, but BUILD 2013 has been noted by the company as a place where “developers and designers can begin to prepare to adopt these new technologies so that their apps and experiences are ready for general availability next year.” That’s in June – stay tuned!"

I would imagine Microsoft are being very cagey about releasing any news about a stand alone Kinect product before the release of the X-Box One console as they have been adamant that the X-Box One will only be shipping with a Kinect. If there are official announcements about the release of a stand alone Kinect prior to this, then the demands from gamers for them to release a lower priced X-Box One without a Kinect as standard will grow much stronger and louder than they already are. Given all of the U-turns and general screw-ups made by Microsoft so far with the promotion of the X-Box One, they need to be very, very careful about what they say and announce before the release in November.

As Davewriter says, Microsoft said earlier this year that there would be a Windows/PC version of the new Kinect out in 2014. This is the official release on the subject from Microsoft back in May:

Since then, they have gone very quiet on the subject presumably to avoid any distractions from the X-Box One console release which will be much, much more important to them financially than the niche market the stand alone Kinect will be sold to.

They did have a scheme for people wishing to develop for the new Kinect for Windows which was set to start up in November but applications to join that closed at the end of July:

Given the vague information available on a release date from Microsoft, I would imagine that Siggraph 2014 would be the earliest date we'll see NevronMotion working with Kinect 2. By that time, Newtek should have a rock solid final release of the existing NevronMotion package in the hands of a good number of enthusiastic users. It would be nice if Microsoft could drop the price on the Kinect 1.0 for Windows so more people could get to play with what is already available.
