View Full Version : MP3 vs. Wav?

Was just running some audio sync test in lightwave 11.6. Audio scrubbing issues aside (is that fixed yet?) there was a huge difference in how each of the 48k files were interpreted, with an explosion hit at frame 903 on the MP3, while the WAV has the explosion at the correct 832.

Is this something that's always been? Am I missing a setting? Encoding the MP3 incorrectly? Where's the best place to start troubleshooting this thing?

I don't mind WAV, but the filesize is killer (64 megs vs. 4 for the MP3), but I'll suck it up if that's just the way it is.

For animation reference, it's probably a good idea to make a low quality .wav file. You don't need 16bit 48k stereo for figuring out timing. It's more data for the computer to process and more space on your hard drive which can reduce performance though it might not be as big of a drain as it used to be on older equipment.
