Dear David,
Audio in accurate playback & scrubbing are important even for user feedback to
introduce secondary animation tics & whinces on queue etc.
Plus bear in mind lots other programs Audio is essential, it's pipeline insurance!
Also the sad tale of Audio in the LW 11* cycle as below, reinforces the case as a Must-Have.
