View Full Version : Tension Trouble

This is probably one for Denis, but I don't like to pester so I'll put it out there for the general populace. I'm trying to output a new render of my human rig, but it crashes once it gets past the "Mesh freezing" part and onto the "Displacement nodal (0%)" part. It's not unti I disconnect the DP Tension node that it will render. It will render in VPR though.

I've stripped the scene down to a single polygon with a couple of displacement nodes, which I present here for your bamboozlement. Hit F9 or F10 and it will generally crash (although on the odd rare occasion, not). Unplug Tension and it renders.

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Confirmed, except with Subd mode set to 'Last'.

Seems to be fixed in the last update of Tension node,
geometry is tested roughly for every frame now in Displacement context,
for synchronizing node data with subpatched geometry reinitializations in Layout,
this fix could solve other issues when using Tension node
for displacement.

Woohoo! Not only is the render crashing fixed, but now I can crank up the subpatch level higher than 6 without it crashing (takes a while to generate, but I can live with that), AND I can preview the displacements without having to have VPR turned on.

Denis you're a champion.

You might like the next test then... ;)

Are the wrinkles displacements then? Not bumps/normal maps?

They're both.
