View Full Version : connecting polygons

I want to connect two 4 point polygons that are separated by distance, but use a curve to define the shape of the connection in a back layer. So like to connect a vein to another vein using selected polygons from both to form a branch.

Is there a tool that does this?

not sure that you do this in a one step tool

You could take the curve and use the rail extrude tool to extend one of the polys almost all the way to the second one
then use the bridge tool to make the final connection

hope this helps

right, I can do that with Magic Bevel. But was wondering if there is an all in one tool that you can connect the polygons using the bridge tool with a deformation of the bridge according to the curve in the back layer.

In fact it would be great if the magic bevel tool had a snap feature.

So when you pull your tentacle or vein out towards other geometry it would snap to the nearest polygon with in a certain amount of distance.

That would be a great new feature.

without any further ado......

Bezier Bridge (http://www.artssphere.com/plugins/bezierbridge.php) :)

Aww, it does not work with Mac 64bit! This would be perfect

Hmmm. well, "perfect" is a pretty strong word.
Might be worth it to just open up a 32 version of LW, do your thing and get out.
You could be halfway done by now (so to speak... lord knows how many veins you got going. All the more reason.) :)

Edit: there is also PX_Bezier (also 32, but still worth mentioning).

There is a PX_Bezier64 :)

Yep, I think there's a Mac version - http://www.pictrix.jp/?s=Px_Bezier

How will this help me connect the polygons, I have loaded the PX_Bezier 64bit version. but do not see how to connect my polygons to each other?

Use the Bezier to get close (you can keep your reference curve in the background), cap the end and do a simple bridge for the final step as Dexter suggested. But, I guess we are back to multiple steps.

Yes I see, but then this would be similar to magic bevel. I was looking for a one shot tool. Bezier Bridge is a one shot tool.

Thank you so much for your suggestions!

I have opted for JoePoe's suggestion and have downloaded a windows 32bit 11.03 version of lightwave and have loaded the old Bezier bridge plugin and it is working beautifully.

Many thanks for all your replies and suggestions everyone!

JoePoe you have the solution again! Thanks a bunch, you are right, it will save me a ton of time as I have hundreds of connections to make.

Why not just launch the Mac LW in 32-bit mode? If you select the modeler icon and use Get Info (cmd+i) you can check the 32-bit checkbox.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with running the Windows version, and that gives you access to more plugins.

cool, I did not know you could do that!
