hey guys. iv heard bout this trick for a long time, since LW started using weight maps probably :) but i have no idea how to do it!! i have wracked my brain.. and as far as i can tell, it would require u to have 2 surfaces on 1 polygon... which as far as i know, isnt possible. so if someone could kindly post a simple explanation, step-by-step would b nice, of how to blend textures with weight maps, it would b grealy appreciated. thanx!

simple make your weight maps positive value is where color/texture will go. make a gradient, set it as a alpha. choose the weight map as input. then add a key at bottom of gradient make its alpha value 0.

then add a surface beneath the gradient in the surface editor procedural, image even another gradient. many weight maps and gradients can be assigned to a surface this way.

hope this makes sense.:D

Antti did a tutorial on it:

that reminds me what ever happened to the Steam shader companion plugin to Coffee?
