View Full Version : 9.6.1 Object Hangs Modeler 11.5.1

I need an object I created back in 9.6.1 days.

But opening it in Modeler 11.5.1 puts Modeler in never-never-land. (Mac spinning pizza of death, "Application Not Responding") - I even waited over half an hour, to see if Modeler would eventually come back to life, but no.

I've tried opening several versions of the object (there are 70 of 'em), all with the same results. :-(

I even booted Modeler 9.6.1 (in discovery mode -- that's yet a different story -- where did my license key go?), and attempted to COPY the object to Modeler 11.5.1, but when attempting to paste the object, NOTHING HAPPENS (probably because of the discovery mode issue?).

I am stuck. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Will the object open in Layout by any chance? If so then you might have some Save As or Export options.

Or try a different builds of 11?

Can you post the object? May e someone on a Pc van "fix" it.

It loaded in Layout! (Couldn't test that because of rendering ...) So. I am waiting to see if "save current object" works from Layout, for opening the model in Modeler 11.5.1.

More shall be revealed. :+)

The 9.6.1 object loaded and saved by Layout 11.5.1 cannot be opened by Modeler 11.5.1. :-(

Modeler just goes into hyperspace, and must be forced quit.

So Layout saved Modeler, but Modeler failed anyway.

Did you use any plugins in 9.6.1 to create parts of the model (i.e. Worley which don't work beyond 9.6.1 on mac), which are not in 11.5.1?
Just a wild stab :stumped:

OK, after SIGGRAPH was over, Deuce (the MAN) called me and helped me get 9.6.1 running - with an all-new license key. -- I <bow> to you, Deuce. :+)

So I was able to open the object in Modeler 9.6.1, and strip out all the unnecessary guide stuff on layers, and save it as a nice clean new object. But ... Modeler 11.5.1 STILL hangs when attempting to open it. :-/

So I zipped it up and sent it to tech support for evaluation.

NT tech support rocks.

Zombie thread alert :D

Did you ever get this resolved?

If he was using procedural textures, nodes, shaders, that were updated in not compatible way, no surprise there is crash or something wrong..

Load object in v9.6, delete traditional layer texturing, delete shaders and nodes, write it. And then try loading it in LW v11.x
But shut-down hub prior launching 11.

Well that's sort of the intriguing part. The object loaded fine into Layout as is/was.
Would Modeler "care" more about surfaces than Layout?

Does it have procedural textures, shaders, nodes, custom polygon handlers (f.e. TrueArt's Bezier, EasySpline, TrueHair, or LWCAD one curves) at all?

If plugin uses Layout-exclusive globals, and has no security checks for Modeler, loading it in Modeler will end up in crash/problems..
