I am looking for tutorials on how to texture in Lightwave. I haven't found a comprehensive set of tutorials on youtube, but if anyone knows of really useful tutorials I could get for free ( make a good YouTube playlist that covers a bunch of helpful approaches named Lightwave Texturing) or tutorials I could invest in, please post links here. I will need introduction level to intermediate for now. For example of what I am looking for, I want to apply an alpha cutout of a logo png to a angled group of polygons of a subdivision model i made.

Do these help?

For your immediate problem, I would suggest making a UV map for the polygons you want to apply this logo image to.

Thank you nickdigital. I will check these out. I did try creating UVs but since it's subdivided, the texture has lined spaces running through it when I go into subpatch mode. Also, the polys I want to texture are not aligned directly with X,Y,or Z so the angle is causing a distortion if I just choose one axis. I'll keep digging, but any further suggestions are mucho appreciated!

Did you set your vertex map type to subd?

As for not having a true axis, you could uv unwrap it...then adjust the UV in the UV edit window.

I created UVs for the polys that I wanted to texture. Some of the edges were very close which may be throwing it off. I chose subpatch for the interpolation type. I rotated the axis using texture guide. I got the proportions right but the spaces still show up unless i come out of subpatch mode.

What do you mean by "spaces still show up"?

You're checking this by doing a F9 in Layout?

There are a lot of edges close to eachother so when i go into subpatch mode, there appears to be blank spaces running through the logo. BTW I edited and I added the file to my previous comment.

yes, the spaces are in the render too. Here is the layout file.

I actually started working on a comprehensive basic texturing tutorial series to sell, but it's kind of stalled while I have paying jobs to work on. I am interested in hearing about what issues you might be facing and what you'd want to see/learn in a tutorial. I will probably break it up into parts with the first part covering the basic surface attributes and the layer-based editor.

there's 3 pages of free tutorials on texturing by William Vaughan here -

This file is useless without the objects and images.

There are blank spaces running through your logo because you haven't selected all the polys to be Case2. 3 of the polys were still called Case. I've called them Case3 so you can see which ones they were. Just rename them to case2.
