View Full Version : Best/ fastest way to generate occlusion pass?

I have given up trying to generate AO pass from within the compositing buffer. It adds up too much time to the main render and difficult to control.

So now I am generating AO pass separately. The problem is that whatever I do, it always generate the beauty pass alongside it, which increases the render time.

Does anyone have any tips and tricks or specific settings to generate this AO pass in fastest possible manner.

Cool tut.... but...

If you are using GI and have those subtle shadows and whatnot... what do you actually do with the separate occlusion pass?

Occlusion is somewhat different from GI and if you are using DP nodes, they are many different ways to control it.

Lightwave interpolated radiosity is also not very good for tight corners, so a separate occlusion pass takes care of that.

It just gives another level of control on the final image which I find very useful. Not necessarily photoreal but I think it is a standard for most studio workflow...
