Please help me with this. I just don't understand how UV unwrap works. I never get anything I expect to see.

Sorry to sort of highjack this thread but in 11.5 the PLG UV tools don't work as expected either, anyone else noticed this?

Back on topic, there's a section on how to use this in the Dan Ablan 11.5 up-to-speed course and if I remember rightly he uses it to unwrap a head. If I also remember correctly Dan also said that's what it's best for.

Adam Gibson goes over ABF UV Unwrap in his 11.5 videos on UV mapping a human as well. And there's not much to the tool itself, it's a single button with no options. The "options" are more about what edges to select when deciding where the UV seams should happen.

Yeah, just select edges that you want to be the seams and used the tool, bang, the thing is unwrapped and that's the result. I wish UV Creeper would be made into a 64 bit version, that's another good one.

Well, there's not much to understand. Organice shapes usually unwrap and relax better. Hard-surface ones, usully not as diced, lower tolerance and sharper angles will give you less automated results. A simple cube with one sided inset-ed in an and then shifted/beveled out will be a challenge enough. A part of work is doing the right cuts, other is going in by hand to fix overlarps. Relaxation won't help on hard-surfaces, probably even give more wonky results.

adrian: PLG Unwrap by default applies relaxation. Try to go down the options and set it to 0 to see if it helps. Make UV = ABF, while Make UV Fast = sort of LCMS.
