That Max plugin/script looks amazing. Wish there was a LW version (especially one that could lay down the nurnies as instances instead of geometry!)
That Lscript is cool - hadn't seen it before. There's also the QuadPanels plugin - http://www.liberty3d.com/2010/08/quadpanels-1-5/

There's something similar for C4D called "Fusion Thing", basically another recursive parametric modeling engine, and XFrog's tools are frequently used in a similar manner. There's yet more examples in the RailClone thread as well.

There's no mystery why parametrics are such a hot topic right now, and so critical for the future: Your efficiency gets boosted immensely because you just need to design a few "detail" components and from there all you need to do is provide gross structure, set up some layered distribution recipes, and the parametric engine generates the fine detail for you. Being able to model large-scale objects and then apply fractal layers of finer and finer detail-on-detail allows for major time savings for many genres of modeling tasks.
