Dear Friends:

I started reading savage sword of conan (old used comicbooks) and really like.
The comics state that is all inspired by robert howard's original stories.
Is the original conan copyrighted ?
Or can I make lightwave 3d animations of Conan the barbarian ?
Can I, or Cannot ?

Thank you !!!

Fan works are ok most of the time if you don't monetize anything. Yes, Conan is copyrighted... in fact I expect a comeback movie to come out next year... uuggghhh!!

Now, there are several instances where you can monetize off of an existing franchise/copyrighted material (IE: parodies, because they are obviously consistent of work not done by the original authors), but I'd advise caution.

There are resources for looking up copyright details, do some searches.

Give it a different name slightly and you are ok. Have you seen Korgoth of Barbaria by the way? Funniest Conan-like cartoon ever.

While certain works/stories may still be under copyright... the character Conan himself is not... hence you can use him for yourself/own stories/works freely.
