Having difficulties modeling this object. It is a sculpture made of copper that spins in the wind. I'm attaching 3 different shots so you can see from different angles.

I've tried a number of approaches. The problem you'll note is the the metal strip bends one direction, then at the half-way mark, needs to bend the other direction. Everything I've tried thus far makes the strip continue to ben in the same direction.

Help!

you probably already tried this, but goto flay.com and search for a script called 'helix', a few come up but one gives you control over the creation.

use that to create the curve for a rail extrude.

Nice sculpture, what was the copper pieces you are using? looks like a round object that's been cut and pulled to make the elongated shape? where did you get them from? my wife's doing copper sculpture at the moment and was wondering.

Have you had any luck with the model?

i'd use the lathe tool with an offset and finish value beyond 360 degrees
