Well, ask them to set up a kickstarter for Linux then! The app is all based on OpenGL (for GPU acceleration) and uses QT for the UI, so I would imagine porting it to Linux wouldn't be out of the question. Whether there's a large enough (paying) market for it, I don't know. A successful kickstarter would prove it hopefully. Not much competition on Linux for this kind of app is there? Good for educational markets too...

If by "anybody" you mean large, professional animation and VFX studios, then "Yes!" people do pay for Linux software licenses by the tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.

That said, the HitFilm (and Newtek) folks know their markets and Linux is obviously not in the cards yet. Even without a Linux port I'm glad the OSX folks are getting the love they deserve.

As far as I'm aware Autodesk asks for a dollars or two for linux versions of Maya
