Hi all,
I use Lightwave 10.1 as a retirement hobby and have been playing around with DP Tree, Foliage , Grass and Growth Tools. My trees grow according to plan but I cant manage to get my custom leaves with their endomorph to scale up to size when the branches reach full size. I must be doing something with my custom leaves. Any suggestions? Thanks.

There was a bug with custom leaf and grass in DP Verdure
a morph shape wasn't correctly applied to the distributed foliage or grass,
this has been fixed in the version 1.2 of DP Verdure,
so you can add a morph to your custom leaf with a 0% scaling
(all points localised to zero) and all your leaves in foliage
may be scaled/reduced at their place with Morph Mixer
for a growing effect.

Is there any hope of a Mac version of DP Verdure anytime soon? What's the main blocker?

Thanks Denis for your reply. I may be dense or too old (82 years) but I dont understand your explanation how to add a morph to a custom leaf in particular " zero scaling with all points localised to zero ". Please bear with my ignorance.

In DP Foliage, a custom leaf is your own leaf shape
placed on the background layer, it should be Z+ oriented.

Select this layer on foreground,
create a morph by clicking the 'M' button, bottom right
of your Modeler screen,
select 'New',
in the panel click on 'Create',

while your Morph is still selected in the 'M list',
press 'h' for the Scale tool, place the mouse at zero,
appply a 0% scale factor, your leaf shape should
be reduced to one point,

then reselect the '(base)' in the Morph list,
you get your original leaf intact,
now you can use this object in background layer
in DP Foliage and foliage will inherit this Moph vertex map,

for an animation in Morph Mixer of Layout,
create a key of 0% at frame 0,
a key of 100% at frame 30,
foliage should grow between these two frames.

I, too, would love to see a Mac version of this.

Denis I have been having fun with DP Growth. My custom leaves grow with the growing of the tree and I wonder if there are some parameters to allow the leaves to start growing when the tree has finished growing. Sorry to be a pest. Kevin

Of course with this scaled morph, leaves are growing at a static place
on the final tree, so the animation of leaves should start when
the tree growing animation is finished,
I know this looks not natural,
branchlets are growing simultaneously with leaves in spring,
but do not expect a ready made object and animation setup
in DP Verdure for that, this requires much work.

Look at this short animation,
114415
the tree itself is not just growing along its geometry
branches are animated also with a morph,
and foliages has also a second morph for matching
this little 'blooming' effect,
this was achieved in several steps,
using a polyline tree for generating a skelegon,
lowering the angle of all bones in Layout
for generating both tree an foliage morphs.

Note also that a line tree generated after
a fully polygonized tree inherits its weight maps,
which could be used for further windy dynamic effect
in Layout.

Thanks again Denis. Your animation is the result I mentioned I was lookpng for. You have pointed me in the right direction. This will keep me busy. Kevin

Is it possible to add a leaf model to DP Foliage?

The reply is in one of the few posts above.

Thanks, i didn't see.
I select my tree in foreground and the leaf in background, but when i put make foliage, it doesn't follow branches, it's putting leaves all around the tree but not on.

There are also a few lines in the doc of DP Foliage,
the custom leaf must be placed in the background layer
at the origin (the point of the leaf which you want to see attached to the branch)
and oriented in the Z+ direction.

Thanks, it works
