My co-worker is using Max. He is making buildings there, how should we best set-up the workflow between the programs? .OBJ, .FBX or something else?

max has export option for lightwave obj thats good for static models.

I would go with FBX. That way you could get the most information over between the packages. Watch out for animations not working correctly from version 10 and 11 of FBX from Autodesk products.

I usually use 2009 for animation, cameras and lights. 2010-2013 for objects. This is only on the Autodesk side. Going from LW to Autodesk works just fine with all.

you will always have problems with the camera FOV
