...anyone tried this new Sapphire card with Lightwave? I'm very tempted to upgrade. There's also an EVGA Nvidia GTX 680 Mac Edition coming out soon for about the same price, but the openGL performance seems not to be on par with the Radeon. See barefeats.com for tests. Main reason to get the EVGA card would be CUDA for Octane, or Turbulence FD, but I'm not likely to use them much, in any case.

So, any experiences, thoughts, recommendations?

Currently working on a Radeon HD 5870 here, running in latest MacPro generation.

I have the same setup as you. 12 core 3.06, Radeon 5870. I was thinking the same thing, but honestly I don't think you will see much difference especially in modeler. I believe it is more an issue of Newtek's use of open GL. Wish I knew someone that had it.

please can anyone from newtek maybe tell us if the 3G of video RAM in the ATI card would be of benefit when working with large scenes in layout, when compared to the 2G of vram in the nvidia GTX 680 card or 1G of older cards under current OSX?
