I have a bunch of CAD files I need converted. They seem to be mostly .prt and .asm files. Solidworks I believe.

Does anyone know of a decent and reasonably priced service company to convert these to LW and or Max? I have been playing with Deep Exploration but have been getting lots geometry problems.

Thanks!!

You could give polytrans a try.

http://www.okino.com/default.htm

and if you've got any questions about the software or converting in general they'll almost certainly get back to you.

Ah, thanks. Ive played with Polytrans in the past and Deep Exploration seems to have more options and a more robust interface. Its been a while since i looked at it though. I have a number of files so I was hoping to hire someone with some expertise to deal with the details.

Thanks,

Even if your not sure whether you want to do it yourself or not, if you've got specific questions about 3d formats and/or converting I'd strongly recommend emailing okino. Robert Landsdale runs the show and every time I've contacted them he's always replied very quickly and thoroughly. I'd be interested to see what deep exploration is like though...

You beat me to it. Okino software is kind of strange to work with but once you get it, it's solid! The owner/programmer always gets back with you with any questions. He's even converted some files I was having trouble with.

We bought it after seeing some conversions he made for us. It's been great.

But understand your concern about just having someone else do it.

Also Rhino I think will open those files too. You can save/export straight to LWO I think.

Making some headway with my own conversions. Polytrans looks like it will be cost prohibitive due to the varying file types im dealing with. I am still looking for a service if anyone comes across one.

Thanks for the input.

Have a look at Babel3D www.babel3d.com
They offer free file conversion but I don't know if they still do.

Hope it helps :)
