I always have mixed feelings about these things because I can't help getting all giddy inside as a video consumer, but I really don't want 4K renderings to become the norm.

I could see my old Biostatistician using these to look at Heatmaps for the data the lab generates. Right now he uses 3 30"+ monitors (two Dell and an Apple) as well as a 27" from Apple.

Hate to say this, but I have been saying.........

The game is going to shift again and as soon as our little 6/8 core CPUs were crunching along just fine on HD content, next thing you know it is going to be back to the farm to do anything considered "standard". And I predict it will be that way for a little while once it gets into swing. Back to when HD came along and we were just finally crunching through SD at a clip. We are not there yet. But it is coming faster than the CPU and GPU power on our ends as individual artists is being developed to keep up. Again, the gap between what an individual artist can produce (technically) and a larger company with money to throw at a render farm, will widen greatly. There will always be that gap. But it will widen again and be a game changer.

I wonder if those monitors will be any good for graphics and if that tech and price drop will trickle down to pro models.

In Japan they are going for 8K, so why limit ourselves with 4K?

It's a pain to work in 4k, hey! even working with 1080p is mad. We'll more bandwidth, hard disk space, memory, etc. Let's see if consumers and clients will want to pay for it.

i think i'll get away with 4K for some time... just cheat, rendering it in 4K, then pumping it up to 8K, usually the client won't be able to tell the difference, unless you're making it for company X... if so,.... outch!

one day they will use molecules instead, so that you can pretty much choose your resolution http://erikalstad.com/backup/misc.php_files/smile.gif
