View Full Version : FPrime and LW11.5

I still have problems with FPrime and LW11.5. The plugin disappears when shutting down the PC and after reinstalling FPrime showes only one color on the entire object. LW11.0 is working fine !
Can somebody help me with this frustrating problem.

No, doesn't work with 11.5; stick with what's working.

03-29-2013, 07:42 AM
Do you mean that FPrime don't work properly With LW11.5 ?

03-29-2013, 07:47 AM
Others have stated as such.
You might try to contact Worley?

I did, but they said that it might be "something wrong" with a config - file. I have tried to uninstall/install several times - same bad result. I like FPrime so now I have to run both LW11.0 and 11.5 layouts. It works, but .....

I have used FPrime with 11.5 and have had no problems yet. I wonder if it only screws things up when certain 11.5 specific features are active? I have only used FPrime preview with 11.5 and haven't used FPrime render with it yet.

I'm pretty sure Frime does not work with the 11.5 nodes correctly. I got splotches and other goofy things happen.

No issues here as well.

Seems I was half right and half wrong: Works for all things pre-11 but not post.
Thus the reason I gave up on my FPrime a bit ago...

It would be nice to hear what the guru's of Worley and NewTek means about the problem ....

It would be nice to hear what the guru's of Worley and NewTek means about the problem ....

Have you tried asking Mr. Worley himself??

But, I aggree would be best if Worley could waste 5 minutes of his time and finally admit that he gave up on developing Fprime/G2/Sasquatch and other great plugs.

Rightly or wrongly, I'd forget it ... I abandoned it when it was clear there was going to be no more support for it, but LW was moving forward apace. It seems at our end of software, users, we have to infer and assume that a program has been abandoned. HDI was another one, and now we have native instancing, it's likely a given that HDI is dead. One of the less impressive sides of the software world - discourtesy.

Rightly or wrongly, I'd forget it ... Yeah, it's mostly used for old scenes that we need to get into and render, otherwise VPR and F9!

Now I know that I'm lucky to have LW11.0 in "the back-hand" - using it when I need a fast, wonderful render like FPrime.

03-29-2013, 07:40 PM
You are using nodes with preprocessing?

03-29-2013, 10:06 PM
Just tested fprime again with lw 11.5 with an old scene. No problems as long as you don't use some nodes.
I wished worley would reconsider developing fprime again to be more compatible with new lw 11 features and gpu accelerated. Its still an amazing renderer ahead of its time and I think people would still buy it now if it was further developed.
top octane 18 min with g680 gt and titan gpu combo
middle fprime 18 min i73770
bottom kray 18 min i73770

Not only - mostly Dielectric (glass). Strange is that "old" models works Perfect - only with the "new-made " FPrime uses the "first" surface on the list in the surface editor - if Default is on top all get gray color. And the second problem is that the plugin "falls out" when restarting the pc.

Impressing model, geo_n. Very nice renders. Which render program do you consider as the best now?..... and compared to LW's F9 .

03-30-2013, 08:08 AM
For my use.
lw renderer 90% of all project its capable.
kray specializes in archiviz and interior stills with high reflection blur stuff.
fprime easy to use with animated deformed stuff still the best for that.
octane I've yet to enjoy without investing for atleast two titan gfx cards.

lw 11.5 native renderer 27mins

I'd be curious to see if Fprime is faster in 9.6. I know it crashes a whole lot less there. :)

No issues here with Fprime and 11.5 unless I'm using an unsupported light type or node that Worley had already listed as known issues

03-30-2013, 03:24 PM
Hmmm. Maybe I use an unsupported light type when my Objects takes only ONE color on every different surface (the first one). Do you know what light type which is unsupported i FPrime?

03-30-2013, 04:25 PM
geo_n, I recognize those renders :D. I prefer LW because it has motionblur, gradients, ... Octane has so much potential, but some important things are still missing like gradients. I'm waiting for KRay's next version with CPU+GPU support, that should kick ***!

03-30-2013, 04:29 PM
Here is 3 different renders: LW 11,5 F9 ; LW11,5 FPrime; LW 11,0 FPrime. The LW11,5 Fprime not good ...!

Impressing model, geo_n. . . . . .

ige, for you information: The model is of The British Museum of Natural History, Waterhouse building. It was originally provided by CGTalk in a rendering-surfacing contest.

The model differs considerably from the real building. See attached photographs. Note, for example the details of the ceiling, tiled floor and stone ceiling truss supports.

I remember that museum model..lol. I didnt do too much with it at the time cause my pc was too slow.

As for Fprime. It was good in it's day, but VPR does great for previewing. The only thing Fprime had was progressive rendering, which was nice, but not overly important for me.

Just speculating, but I think Worley may be involved with VPR development. Would be nice to see some of the other Worley plugs get updated, though.

Stick native LW lights available in th3 9.x cycle... I know for wxample that the DPont lights don't work well with FPrime and 11.5.... also looking at your dark image for FPrime... remeber that you probably need to use the srgb color space.... yours looks dark probably because you're in linear space.

04-04-2013, 11:09 AM
I use mostly area lights. Strange is that it works with LW11,0. What do you mean with srqb color Space?

04-04-2013, 12:17 PM

This shows linear color space which I think is now the default in 11. Lights show up better in FPrime if the are in SRGB space... in Layout's options choose srgb for your color space

04-04-2013, 03:05 PM
It did not make any difference - only one (first) color shown in FPrime.
