Speed Modeling Challenge #211 - Easter!

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modeling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a wire-frame and a render at 800x600 or larger. (For wireframe help go to: http://www.artssphere.com/plugins/polygoncoloring.php)
3. LightWave must be used for modeling. 3rd party Plug-ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.
6. The winner is judged by the challenge starter and the prize is to set up the challenge after next week's.

This week's topic: Easter.

Yeah I know, but it is Easter and all that. So get into mood and model some Easter things... eggs, bunnies, chicks, erm ... and anything chocolate. Can you model the box, egg and sweets in less than an hour? Bonus point for making me hungry. :D

Modeling time: 60mins

Deadline: Wednesday, April, 3rd, 2013, 22:00 G.M.T

Have fun!

It's very quiet round here today?

Will post some wires soon.

[QUOTE=XswampyX;1313172]It's very quiet round here today?

I'm unable to upload images (takes forever). Perhaps other people are having an issue with this too - hence the silence?

Those are both eggcellent XswampyX (sorry-its mandatory!)
Your Smarties egg render is first class but I think a touch of DOF and a blurred backdrop would lift it even more.

04-01-2013, 08:13 AM
Thanks Iain. I was so chuffed with the smarties I didn't look at the rest of the composition. :foreheads

Hope this is better, or is the DOF overdone?

No, its perfect!
Killer stuff.

Felt I had to take part even though all my free time is currently taken up with (bloody) work.
An egg I wanted but told everyone not to get me as I just bought 30" waist jeans for the first time in 20 years.

A few months ago, John Lewis had a sample tray of Charbonnel and Walker Salted Caramel Truffles and I adjusted my hairstyle three times to go back for more.

Nice one Iain, Did you draw the box wires freehand? :D

Some wires.... Pretty basic shapes.

Nothing to crazy, just a simple lil egg. Modeling time 5 minutes.

Was fun to play with the FiberFX to make grass. texture on the egg could be better

04-02-2013, 06:07 PM
Yes, I know there are weave textures/shaders (pretty good ones too)....., but it's a modeling challenge right? :D

Pretty much done in the hr, but have been pushing some points around for a bit (still ain't right), so I have to say I'm over.

04-02-2013, 06:10 PM
And..... Daaaaamn, some sweet renders this week!

Nice basket Joe looks great! Looking forward to the wires on it. :)

Side note, How to you add an image so it shows up full in your post and isn't a lil thumbnail pic?

First time FiberFX. Never new it even existed but I'm glad I know now, so powerful.
I can't find any decent settings for good looking grass though. Tips?
Also do you really need as many polys for my floor as I do. I was following a tutorial and it was the only way I could get more density and to get clump to work :S
Took about 30-40 for the model.
Stole your egg style Swampy though don't think I did it justice :P

I use the insert image button in the editor > from url (I use Photobucket) and UNcheck "Retrieve remote file and reference locally".
If it's referenced locally it will be treated as an attachment and presented as a thumbnail.

If it weren't for computer problems, I might have had an entry - had a concept ready, and then ... >WHAM!<. :( Stoopid AVG, making my machine flakey.

04-03-2013, 03:05 PM
Hey, we eat chocolate bunnies for some reason.... this makes much more sense. :D

04-04-2013, 12:54 AM
Easter Island ..bwahahaharrr  Bonus points if it's not hollow and could be filled with caramel praline on the inside, Joe Poe :D

04-04-2013, 12:34 PM

Too late due to problems uploading, but anyway.. here it is. I was fiddling with fiberfx. This is the first one not looking like the chicken had some kind of skin-desease :-)
Modelling time 10 mins.

Iain - Nice, simple wires and a great render. Thanks for kicking this off. :)
Wittywop - Wow, I don't think you could use less polys. Very efficient.
JoePoe - Another great one from Joe. Love the detail on the basket. Looks way better than just using a texture. But over time....
Samoh VII - Nice wires there, I would use a sub-patch plane for the floor. That way you can adjust the number of poly in Layout. I don't think 'stolen' is the right word.... more like Inspired? :)
akaracquel - Heh chocolate bunny surfer dudes. Nice simple wires. A solid base mesh, you should freeze it and take it over to sculptris. Loads of fun.
JoePoe - Easter head. Looks tasty! Wires are nice and solid.
Slartibartfast - chocochick. Late entry but it's a good start. No wires so I can't comment on them. I think for the chick fur/feathers you need to set the chicks surface to sort of chicken skin pink. I think it's the default grey?

This weeks winner is Samoh VII for the Eggtastic erm... eggs. Well done.

Late entry for fun. Devilled Eggs, Modeling time 23 minutes or one Boy Meets World Episode.

Congrats to Samoh for taking the win.

Congrats Samoh!
Great entries everyone :)
