Thanks! I had a good laugh when you said: "this is similar to Blender... Hold on, I have got a blend modifier!"

I made a quick video explaining how to bend a bezier-curve based cylinder, rather than a mesh. So many possibilities, and completely non-destructive. And everything is animate-able, even down to the number of mesh divisions. Lots of fun. Add hooks to any of the control points to animate the curves controlling the cylinder!

(it plays a bit too fast, and no sound - still, I hope you get the general idea)

In the beginning I add a bezier curve, and switch from straight (vector) points back to bezier points to quickly create a straight line. And for some reason or other Blender does not allow the number of segments to be controlled for vector points.

To duplicate the curves I used <shift><d>, and hit enter (without the use of the mouse).

ps were you aware that Blender has a built-in screencast mode?

Nice video cress, great showing why is animatable modeling tools important and why is modifier better than destructive way :).

great comparison there..nice.

you have two apps more you can add, without any extra cost except for time and new recording editing I guess..

1.Houdini apprentice which is free and showcase that...and now for the nostalgics...
2.Core...use the bend tool from the old core platform and see the difference:) I hope to see this ported ASAP in next LW version, they could add it as Cbend and keep the old for those who prefer that.

hi cresshead, just for information for a better
modo experience. you can also do the bend in the modeling quad mode, just enable deformation in the viewport property and add a timeline in the modeling interface. luxology separate the tab for some reason. but you can do all in model quad, its just a preset/layout matter.

Cool info! You can also do some similar stuff with text, and the text remains editable no matter what you do to it.113075

A reminder for those in charge, non destructive workflow..in a case where you have a logo running around a globe or other items in a path, you could simple change text if needed
for something else etc, in Lightwave of today, you have recreate the text and applie deformers and set it up again taking considerably longer time and also possible missmatch
if not set correct to match the former deformer.

You forgot to show the bend deformer in Lightwave where you can animate the bend.

it's linked under video 1 in my first post...we can't embed 2 youtube clips on this forum i'm afraid!
