Having trouble figuring out LW's caustics. Any help would be appreciated.

LW test
112943

Modo test

Slightly different HDRI but setup is the same.

LW GI settings

No special settings. Modo is all presets. Images done in Modo 401 and LW 11.5
If there are any tuts out there would love any help finding them. Thanks

Hi,
I have an image I'm playing around with, a work in progress. I have the Caustic Intensity set to 20% and Accuracy set to 1000. Here's the image so far. I'm not using an HDR, though.

Interesting. I'll try another render higher numbers and see what I get.

The higher settings did it. I'll have to experiment to get render times down.

One thing that concerned me is that caustics don't seem to be showing up in VPR. Full quality (non draft) doesn't seem to reflect the caustics in render.

Are you using just GI?
Throw in some lights. I've got two area lights in combo with GI.
I'm away from the computer, but am sure I didn't have to go quite so high in settings.

It would be nice if that could be in VPR but I bet it would really tax resources. What I do when I'm fiddling with the settings is to use a smaller camera multiplier setting until it looks good, then crank it to 100%.

Not having a problem with caustics in modo's preview.

Are we sure VPR can't do caustics or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks Joe, you were right. I added an additional area light and upped the power while lowering GI. It got the job done. Not thrilled about render time however and it still doesn't show up in VPR.

Remember that the "P" in VPR stands for Preview. :)
