Dreamworks proprietary format did go open source some time ago, and collaboration with Sidefx yielded it fully implemented in houdini, for handling volumetric data
and simulation more efficient.

I like hypervoxels, but as we all know it has been very little work on that from lw 9 and up, it is time to look in to more efficient ways to handle volumetrics, and why not take
a look at OpenVDB right now since it is there as open source.

Im curious as the cat...Maybe the Lightwave group already jumped on to this ship? And what about TurbulenceFD and volumedic?
Not sure about volumedic, Elmar mentioned something about GPU wasn´t in focus for volumedic, and that might rule openVDB out since it takes advantage of that..I think.
