View Full Version : Consistent rate along motion path

Greetings.

I am animating a very circuitous path through the endoplasmic reticulum and golgi apparatus and because some segments are short and/or curvaceous, and others are longer with gentle curves, my animated molecule speeds and slows along the path.

Is there a way to use the same path and keep a steady rate from beginning point A to the end point B?

Any help would be appreciated. Need the answer pretty soon.

I suspect that they actually can't rectify what they broke since it's been so long since we've moved to this "new & improved" forum.

Thanks guys.

I thought I'd share my final solution.

The motion path had to conform to the objects (ER, golgi) which slanted off on the z-axis.

I drew a spline in modeler (in the back view) to follow the path that I wanted, of course now all points were at 0 on the z.

Using the side view, I moved the points a few at a time toward the desired objects, confining point movement to the z axis.

If converted to a motion path at this stage, the item would move quickly between the points spaced farther apart.

I rail extruded a small triangle along the spline with equal segments.

Selected loop connected points, one side of the triangle ( from the extruded triangle rail).

Copied to another layer.

Selected points in order.

Made open curve, exported as motion path.

Added motion path to a null which was parented to the 3d er, golgi object.

Used trailer plugin targeted to null to add the conforming object and voila, steady motion path ,which can be scaled to taste.

The object nicely bends and folds to the motion path thanks to trailer.p.


Not so elegant, but took only about 10 minutes for each curve, and looks great.

Glad you got it sorted with your own solution digitaldoc. If you have some spare time I'd suggest you still check out that thread as it might make your life easier somewhere down the track :thumbsup:
