Nvidia has nearly crossed the uncanny valley. The graphics computing giant debuted a technology today that showed how its graphics chips can render a human face with nearly flawless realism.

It's very impressive, though it's more a playback system for facial capture data from that spherical capture rig. Hence the noticeable glitches when it switches between the various performances. Very impressive rendering, but it's not really tackling the biggest problem posed by the uncanny valley - which is creating something that looks human and crafting a performance from scratch.
