I have an object in layer 1 with many surfaces. In layer2 I have the same object but it is entirely 1 surface. Is there a plugin to surface object in layer 2 based on object in layer 1 ?

Uhhhhhh, if it's the same object, why not just copy it?

because the second object has a proper UV map

Maybe instead of trying to copy surfaces you can get the uv of object 1 to match object 2.

If the points in the background object are in the exact same place as the foreground object then just copy the points from the background object and past them into the foreground object. When you merge points the foreground object will get the uv map from the background object.

I knew there was a simple solution!

!!! Did that work?

How does the app decide which points get precedence???

Good point. I don't know. If both objects have different uv maps with the same name then I guess you should clear the one you don't want before you merge the points.

It didn't work for me.

Actually it works but you have to delete uv map values on object with old uv map and paste this on the object with new uv map, not the other way around and then merge points. Thanks a lot !

There is "Spread Surface" from TrueArt:http://www.trueart.pl/?URIType=Directory&URI=Products/Plug-Ins/SpreadSurface

It might do what you want? :)

Boris, if you get the time could you elaborate on that? Break it down for us?

And what vertex info are you preserving for a 2point poly??? (I'm assuming UV info would be pointless.)
