Speed Modeling Challenge #208 - Food Stuff
******************************************
Rules:

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modeling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a wire-frame and a render at 800x600 or larger.
3. LightWave must be used for modeling. 3rd party Plug-ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.
The winner is judged by the challenge starter and the prize is to set up the challenge after next week's.
******************************************

This week's topic: Food Stuff

Food stuff - everyday items but made from food. So maybe a chocolate teapot or a sofa made from jelly? A nice pair of meat sandals or a carrot telescope? Create whatever you like as long as it looks like its made from food :P

Modeling time: 60mins

Deadline: Wednesday, March, 13th, 2013, 22:00 G.M.T

Again, sorry for the lateness.

I used the full hour... getting rusty in LW since all my time is spent in other apps at school these days... I have yet to texture this, but it's a food sculpture of a bike... done with oranges :)

Man I am slow to UV'map :/ kind of feel dissapointed in myself knowing I could have Unwrapped this 4X faster in maya... but that's probably becouse it's the only thing I've never bothered to learn while using LW and was forced to learn in Maya a few days ago. Know of some good tutorials or resources for UV's in Lightwave ?

Here's the textured version... it was fun to to the finishing touches with the texture... UV mapping is always rewarding in the end :)

Wow I suck lol. I gotta start doing these more often.
Took about 20-30 for the model, and same for textures.
Someone please tell me how I would illuminate this object so it looks glowing. I usually finds myself needing to do this alot but noever know how.
Thanks

Turn up the luminosity on the objects shader. Then in the render settings turn on Global Illumination. This will make your object cast light onto other objects in the scene. To get a glowing effect around it like a halo. In the object shader goto the Advanced Tab and turn up the glow intensity. hit ctrl+F8 button to bring up the effects menu and goto the processing tab, click the Enable Glow option. Here you can adjust the settings some more and the render.

Once someone posted the link for the HOW-TO of the slick 'rendered wireframe' procedure, in responce to someone's question on a Speed Challenge.

Could that link please be made part of the Speed Challenge 'boilerplate' text at the start of each challenge? I for one would find that a great convenience.

Waaaaaaay late, but another one just for fun while we await Simon's decision. What's a noodle spoon without a carrot knife anyway.

Jeric - I'm going to start the next challenge tomorrow, if you can find that link I'll throw it in. Can't guarantee (and really don't expect) the link will remain live from the weekly cut and paste action. Hopefully I will be proven wrong.

-OR-

You can jump in the ring here, win a challenge, and throw it in yourself!! :boogiedow

Well-formed URLs seem to automagically get converted into links, so I don't expect any difficulty there.

I think it was Art (something Polish) who had the hot tip on the rendered-wires technique.

The wireframes "trick" is usually done with with the edge rendering options inside the object's panel. You only need this trick if you have a Sub-D mesh that you want to show the wireframes as they look before being frozen and rendered. So for that, you pick up poligon coloring at http://www.artssphere.com/ and use it on yer model to get a different surface grouping on all the polygons so that no two polygons that share an edge will be of the same surface group. Poligon coloring plug-in makes this a one-click operation, then all that is left is to use the surface borders option in the edge panels on the object's property.... then throw in a bg color and render with radiosity :)

OK so...

Thanks guys for all your entries this week. Some really cool stuff there.

ArtGoblin - I loved your orange bike concept. Exactly the kind of thing I had in mind upon setting the challenge.
XswampyX - Great execution of a classic foody character!
ksm357- Loving the kiwi specs :)
bellmore -nice twist on the hotdog.
JoePoe- Real shame you went over time. Awesome concept and render. Great work with the carrot knife too!
VictoryX- Great work in only 40mins - man you're fast!
Samoht VII - Nice concept. Would have liked to see the lemon lit up like you mentioned.

Great work by everyone but the winner this week is.......ArtGoblin! I loved your concept from just seeing your initial wireframe and the render was equally impressive. You really nailed the brief IMO.

JoePoe you're up next!

Over and out.

:D Well I can't take any credit for the consept as it was just based on a googled-image... but it was fun to find time for these speedmodeling challenges again... studying takes up too much of my time lately... but I'm looking forward on finding some time for the next one as well Nice job everyone !

Congrats ArtG! Good to see ya back.....liking the new avatar. (hope the quitin' smoking is going well )

Next one coming soon.

Jeric - I think I see what you're saying. Putting in the whole "http..." address will continually show up as a link. Whereas words (like "wire help") with a link attached to them would not retain the clickable link on cut and paste. noted.
