Hello everyone! I haven't been posting much on these forums, and there's a good reason why: We're looking to bump the production of our series to the next level and stop working with hardware/software that is a decade old. The Delura Kickstarter has been launched as of March 4th, 2013 and will run for 30 days.

Delura is an original animated fantasy sci-fi series that we've been working on for quite some time. It is almost entirely created with Lightwave and as an independent producer I really love this program. It is fun to work with, easy to use, and I actually feel like I can accomplish a meaningful amount of work without an army of artists.

-The funding will be used to...

upgrade from our Windows XP 32-bit/Athlon II systems
Upgrade from LW 9.6 to LW 11.5
Procure professional level video editing software (what we have is not much better than windows movie maker)
Thank our contributors by giving them a small cut of the proceeds (33%)

Click here to view the Delura Kickstarter page (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/delura/delura-a-3d-animated-fantasy-sci-fi-series). If anyone could help spread the word at the very least, it would be a huge help! Thank you all for your support over these years; I have learned a lot of what I know from this community and I'm looking forward to both learning even more and contributing my own knowledge as well.

Very cool.

I want to support as many independent productions as possible. IMO this is much better than working on fan films - though both will give you experience.

Best of luck!

Edit. Done!

You are awesome. Thank you! You'll get your poster and permanent name mention on our website credits page once we reach our goal.

By the way, if anyone wants any images or promo material (say you want to make a blog post about it or put something on facebook), feel free to utilize any images found on the website for that purpose. Right now I have a zip file on the Delura front page (http://www.delura.tanadrine.com) that has what i've whipped up thus far in that regard... if I can think of any more images, or get suggestions on what images I could offer people to use freely, I'll gladly make them and add them to the zip file.

Don't let this sink down the forum page. This series deserves to be more!

I agree.

I think it looks very interesting and would definitely like to see more.

for video editing get Lightworks for free. Or pay 60 dollars a year for the pro licence. Its professional editing software used on tonnes of features. Most of which you will have heard of.

Thanks all! I know it isn't going to be easy, but we all know most things an individual strives for doesn't fall into the easy category :)

We did try it a while ago and determined that its workflow just isn't the right fit for us. An alternative video editing software we are considering is Sony Vegas which is of course lower priced than Premier and is pretty robust as well... the reason why we want premiere is for its workflow advantage when used with after effects. I am uncertain as to whether we'll be able to budget after effects into the big equation; market prices could change when I finally make the purchases we're looking to do. I've tried both programs and they are both a million times better than what I'm using right now!

Obviously, the biggest variable cost is the price of hardware, and the expense of printing.

I would highly recommend Sony Vegas Pro. We used version 9 to assemble our two-part pilot episode and it's great.

I tried Premiere and wasn't as nearly impressed - though that was a few years ago.

We had posters (18" x 24") and postcards (4" x 6") made here. I don't know how it compares to what you've already checked out, but it's another option.

I was very impressed with the quality.

We'll certainly check it out for our posters... one concern we've had about ordering online isn't the quality, but rather the idea of having to pay shipping twice; once to us, and once to the recipient. For our t-shirts I'm thinking we have to go local to get them made to be confident of their quality. Because of the design I'm offering, direct-to-garment is required, and those kinda shirts ain't cheap! We did price the pledge tier accordingly at least.

I am also going to be doing experiments with print optimizations on our own printer by just doing an array of thumbnails and seeing which image comes out the best along with seeing if there are any good tutorials out there... then use my results to prepare the image for any shop or vendor I decide to go with. I've actually never optimized images for printing before, so this is brand new territory.

Shipping was negligible. For our 300 posters - 18" x 24" - the shipping was only $21.

That was in 2011. Only 7 cents per poster. Not enough to worry about - well... IMO anyway. :)

Dijard politely disagrees as to how to best advertise our Kickstarter campaign...

Promo video we recently did. All visuals by Ryan Roye, music and audio mixing by MetalRenard. NOTE: We have a promo pack (http://delura.tanadrine.com/?page_id=5141) available that contains video and images that you may download and utilize however you wish so long as it helps promote the Kickstarter (you may even monetize these videos on your YouTube account if you want! The promo pack includes the video below as well.

To me I get a Starfox 64 + the ReBoot 3d animated TV series feel = Delura. Retro and super effective...is nicely done.

The writing and voice acting are great. I'm reminded of the Mass Effect "Citadel" space station's vibe about the cinematography and environmental modeling.

That is correct. I'm trying to get enough views and votes through Newgrounds (http://www.newgrounds.com/) to get us front page exposure for that video. Newgrounds is actually where most of Delura's audience now comes from.

To be clear, Newgrounds predates YouTube by about 10 years, but they used to only handle flash movies. They are slowly expanding to accept movie submissions, and I had to e-mail Tom (the website's owner) to get access to the video submission feature as a beta tester. Newgrounds, unlike YouTube, only accepts animated projects, which makes it perfect for what we're doing with Delura!

So, if anyone reading this has some good, entertaining 3d animated content sitting around, why not work to submit it to newgrounds and give it some exposure? :)

Ok, well I've been clicking on it.

I'm hoping to chip in on your kickstarter campaign. Your series is very entertaining and I have busted out laughing on occasion which I don't do often. A Delura hat would be cool...hint...hint.

I'll brainstorm what I can do for folks who want more options, but no promises! :)

By the way, we got featured as one of the daily top 5 submissions for today! Thanks for your help all!

I thought it'd be fun to do an activity every few days. Your mission is to caption this image. If I like it, or others "vote" it up (saying +1 or whatever), I will edit the caption into the image itself and congratulate the winner!

Post your suggestions in this blog post (http://delura.tanadrine.com/?p=5265) (no registration required)

New pledge options are available at the Delura Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/delura/delura-a-3d-animated-fantasy-sci-fi-series). Including Nickdigital's precious cap he wanted so badly ;)

Most notably, I have added swap options so take a look at that section. If there were items or tiers that contained stuff that were of lesser interest (IE: what if you don't want a shirt or a poster?).

I will also have sample video content up at some point to give people an idea of what to expect in terms of quality from the video tiers.

Haha...well that is a slick looking hat. I see the beverage cup you added too. I don't see a keychain though. :D

Eh what the hey I put one in ...and no I'm not putting in a placemat... or coloring book... or a flame thrower (as cool as that would be).

Soooo...which pledge option gives you the hat, keychain and shirt?

Ryan Roye

Kickstarter doesn't make pledge options as easy as they should be unfortunately, and I want to keep the pledge tiers clutter free as possible.

However, I think what I can do is show in the options that if a special request is desired (IE: I want all the merch!) that one can contact me for specifics. I can then place a note on that pledger's name saying, for example "Swap custom animation with merch".

Preview content from our behind the scenes videos. Note that I am trying to balance between the technical and non-technical of our audience, so I hope that it will satisfy both ends of the spectrum.
