Yep. It amazes me how often I log on between n:40 and n:45. :(

Ryan Roye
02-06-2013, 01:31 PM
These forums black out for me exactly at n:45 every day, every hour. The blackout lasts for 1 minute, and I run into it a lot more than one would think (IE: while reading, posting, or anything... if I'm using the forums for more than 5 minutes chances are I'll be locked out of it at some point).

That's not really true (it's been months).:twak:

I would say years... decimal amounts though :p I would say that the forum is 72 minutes down every day (3min*24h)

Also notice some old inline attachments are just broken. Example:
http://forums.newtek.com/showthread.php?101465-Free-Speed-Models
Richard had an image on each post. You can see in the source code. So all the previews he set are broken.

Cheers

I remember back when this forum was just a weekly column in the newspaper, and you had to hand draw emoticons on the outside of the envelope you sent your response in.

lwanmtr
02-06-2013, 02:20 PM
I had a stamp made for emoticons back then. And typed it all on a Sholes & Glidden Type Writer.

Is anyone responsible for the forum site listening? It seems the hard work of the Lightwave Dev and marketing team is being undermined by an inferior forum which periodically doesn't allow access, has a dodgy search function, and no thumbnails for the galleries. At least there is the consolation of video. Surely it wouldn't be that difficult to invest some TLC and upgrade to something akin to CGtalk or even the look of the old forum. :(

Yep, this forum is really borked now, can't we go back to how it was? If it aint broke and all that.......

I was going to say very frustrating sometimes, but that would not be true, It's frustrating every visit nowadays and there have been times when I have said bu**er this and moved on. How long does it take to fix this?

I am absolutely sure it is a pulsar star that throughs out chroniton particles in that frequency. Or maybe AD throughs dark forces at NT. Hm, could also be that the froum is powered by a star gate, that peridically closes down and the froum mod needs some time to dial out again?
(I am glad I am not the only one facing this forum lock, feel better now ;-)

Maybe it is doing an hourly back up? That would make sense of it. If that was the case, then I'm sure it could be increased to once every 4 hours.

Just a guess, now that we know it is has regularity. I've done a fair bit of work in Joomla and put some time into forum extensions etc and that is what pops into my head first... but it could be a number of things.

Anyway, an overhaul of the forum is far from a bad idea!

I had to laugh, as I was perusing the forums and it suddenly slowed down. I thought to myself "it must be around 20 to the hour". Lo and behold; it was! It's funny how pretty much any other forum doesn't have this problem and they manage to develop their product at the same time. We've even narrowed down the exact time it happens for them! ;)

Typed a longish reply to this thread and even that disappeared when I tried to post it. Aghhhhhhhhh.
Suffice to say that that there are problems for me trying to view posts or images here no matter what time of day it is and it happens on EVERY visit without fail.

Come on Newtek, get rid of your web guys and sort it already.

Agreed, but what do you really expect from a company that selectively jumps in and out of topic discussions.
It's like they don't give a sh*t, unless a forum topic suites them (which usually involves patting themselves on the back, or closing a thread) :beta:

I would prefer clicking on things. It's a bit of a pain sometimes to massage the mouse's path around the screen.

I'm sure a lot of things are accidentally opened that people don't really want to look at which all just wastes resources.
