I am an experienced programmer.

I want to learn to make some simple scripts in layout to create generic objects at certain coordinates.

There does not seem to be a refernce manual for Layout scripting anywhere, just Modeler.

How do I even get started here?

Thanks!

In your registration page there should be a reference and user guide pdf.

The documentation hasn't been updated in awhile. This page is more up to date.

When in doubt, ask the forum.

Nick,

What I am wanting to do may already have been done. Maybe you know of a plugin like this.

I am thinking I could use Lightwave to display some business data in 3D such that certain relationships would stand out to the eye. A specialized 3d "chart", if you will.

Have you heard of an Lscript that does something like that? I could use such a script as a reference to get started quickly.

It would read in a file of x,y,z coordinates (maybe comma delimited) and place something like a small colored sphere at the coordinates.

Thanks, Nick, for any thoughts you might have on this.

something like this ? : http://alfuzai-studios.com/index02-1.html although links are down, might just need to send the author an email to fix them. A script like you are describing would probably be simple to make especially if the objects arent animated.

Yeah, see if what xchrisx is pointing to what you want.
