Speed Modeling Challenge #204 - Scissors/Shears

*************************************************
http://i1049.photobucket.com/albums/s395/joepoe1/shears.jpg

Rules:

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modeling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a wire-frame and a render at 800x600 or larger.
3. LightWave must be used for modeling. 3rd party Plug-ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.
6. The winner is judged by the challenge starter and the prize is to set up the challenge after next week's.

This week's topic: Scissors/Shears ....... office, home, garden....whatever!

For such a utilitarian object, a lot of interesting variety, especially in the handles.

Time limit: 60 minutes.

Deadline: Wednesday, January, 30th, 2013, 22:00 G.M.T

Have fun, .... don't cut yourself.

Here is my attempt. A nice pair of hedge clippers.

Again it took me a bit, but i feel like I am getting a better hang of subpatching works. I have realized that there is a lot of point moving in subpatch to get the form you want.

Nice akaraquel.

Is that one of the scissor sisters, or Wonder woman? :)

Wonder Woman for sure, XswampyX, although I was aware it would be challenging to conceptually unsee, the scissor sisters ;D
Just realised i got the blade orientation wrong, so she must've screwed up while doing the twirly whirl spin on speed :D

<stares & studies JoePoe's wires, *intensely*> Are they left-handed scissors? :D I like how you managed to get the beveled edge on the blade  What's the etiquette for putting parts together without them being connected ..vs doing the complex gymnastics to make the entire thing connected?

Deeply regret not hitting the "post" button when I documented the 'how to' solve for broken multishift ..I thought i did post it, but I can't find it in the forums at all, so i don't know if i'm imagining that i posted it! Similar happened to someone else, but I think they had a problem with bandsaw (i can't find it!). I remember the fix was nowhere near as painful, compared to trying to find/search the solve for it. Can't remember if it was a case of re-scanning the LW plugins directory. :S

:D those things are inside out, upside down and backwards. Just like my brain at the moment.

Etiquette? In a 60 min challenge.....
But really, it's not so much about being a one piece model (in this particular case). The real life scissors are made up of separate pieces after all..... metal and plastic.
On a more involved model I might go as far as making a very tight pocket where the metal meets handle. But they certainly don't need to be connected. <he says through a cold medicine fog>.

ooh, and I'll try a re-scan of plugs.... tomorrow. Thanks.

On to the challenge:

Wittywop: Another good one! You're really getting the hang of it. By "took me a bit" I assume you were overtime. But the wires are looking good. Nice little jog in the metal near handle.
akaracquel: "freaked me out a bit".... My work here is done! (freaked me out a bit as well, truth be told). I actually think you got a handle on it . It is a complex little shape. Maybe just a bit more thickness to the plastic.
akaracquel 2: The lasso of truth is making me say "Awesome"... Will wonders never cease. :D
XswampyX: Excellent set of snips. Beautiful detail in the handle design. No wires? pity.

Winner and still champion...... akaracquel

I'll still try to persevere learning how to do quad cartwheels, but thanks for the rundown on etiquette, JoePoe
Those handles were ...terrifying  still staring at your wires trying to work out how you did it :D Hope you get better soon :)
Would love to see your wires XswampyX & greetings to Wittywop!
