View Full Version : Character - Chanel Fembot

Hi People.

A piece of my work from my last year of Uni.

The face gets built by two robotic arms (you can see them in their rest state at the bottom). It then gets hit by Chanel No5 fragrance and comes to 'life' during the animation.

Hope you like!

Hi diablo1000000,

Nice work. It reminds of some of the Amex commercials.

great stills, i bet the animation is even better!-

No wonder people are not commenting on the images- nothing to say but -"great work":)

the only things that bother me are the lips and eyes...

they both look like they were pasted on in photoshop

I like the surfacing. I agree with the comments re: the eyes - I think they possibly look a little flat.

Can we see the animation?

I think the eyes and mouth are small video screens with well, images of eyes and mouth on them ;)

Yep, that's pretty darn amazing work.
I'd like to see the animation too.
Could you post a link for us please?

yup, the eyes and the mouth are definitly screens, to me it was obvious- they even have the "low quality interlace" effect- i like it-

Thnanks for all the feedback people!

I like this post - you see, they are supposed to be flat. Perhaps I should post a side-view? The eyes and mouth are screens, I think of them as little GameBoyAdvance screens with the interlace and everything.

They load up the expressions during the anim - the eyes kinda move a little bit as the 'video' plays. :D

I have a copy of the video that streams on my website (www.stewart-net.freeserve.co.uk) but I'll set up a direct link to the .mov file soon!

Ok, as promised here is a link to the video for the Chanel Fembot.

Chanel Animation (http://www.stewart-net.freeserve.co.uk/images/Chanel_Small.mov)

It's hideously compressed, as I have a very limited webspace now I've left University! But at least it'll be quick to download (It's about 2.5Mb)

Imagine the animation with the quality of the renders above! :p

Oh, here's another shot!

All the best,

I think it would be better, if once the robots finished the job they take chanel 5 and spray the robot a bit and then she wakes up and after you put chanel N5 in front. hehe
Just a thought.
Great work.

Hi Sodaplay.

That's kinda what does happen, although it's hard to see the spray/hypervoxels on the low-res video.

The Chanel5 'cloud' breezes in through the doors and kick the robot arms into action. Then once the head is complete, it breezes past again and her eyes/mouth panels begin to work.

Finally the cloud returns to the bottle.

I have to admit I could have made the above more obvious. But when I made the chanel5 cloud TOO apparent, it looked like a huge toxic gas cloud!

Glad you like!

It has the feel of a real commercial. The music and editing is pretty good, and I think that's a big part of it. Great job.

I love it! Great work! Animation is very nice. The whole thing has a very cool delicate and almost mysterious feel to it. =P

What music is that?

11-27-2003, 09:34 AM
Wow Melvil/Psyhke, those a really nice words. Thanks! :D

The music is actually part of the piece they play in the REAL Chanel Commercial (the one directed by Luc Besson, with Red Riding Hood).

And it's the same music ripped straight out of the intro of Edward Scissor Hands. Danny Elfman is the writer of the tune, he's done loadsa film stuff.

As soon as I heard it in the original Chanel advert, I just KNEW I had to do something with it... it's lush! :p

Thanks again guys.

No way! As I was watching it on my notebook in the family room yesterday my mother asked what it was because, "It sounds like something from Edward Scissorhands." I'll have to congratulate her. =P

It is a nice piece though. Adds a lot to the animation.
